If you're at all a fan of video games, video game based movies and/or horror films, you may well be familiar with the name Uwe Boll, the so-called "director" and "producer" of a number of video game/horror films, including House of the Dead, Alone in the Dark, BloodRayne, In the Name of the King (a Dungeon Siege movie) and Posta. Each of these film is, well, dreadful. Extremely dreadful. Quite possibly among the worst movies ever. Seriously.
In 2006
His production company issued a press release stating that Boll would challenge his 5 harshest critics each to a 10 round boxing match. To be eligible, the critic must have written two extremely negative reviews of Boll, in print or on the Web, in 2005. Footage of the fights will be included in his upcoming film Postal.
Recently, video game fans posted a petition asking Uwe Boll to stop make movies, and Boll has responded. According to EW:
the videogame-to-film auteur has responded to the near-universal contempt that critics and genre movie fans have for him by agreeing to quit making movies if an online petition drive calling for his retirement garners one million signatures. Don't know if he'll be as good as his word (though he certainly was when it came to taking on his critics in the boxing ring), but it's worth a try, no? At this writing, some 112,792 signers have called for an end to Boll's Bloodrayne of terror. You can help. Think of the children.
As of my signing just a few minutes ago, they're now up to almost 120,000 signatories. I realize this isn't any thing of earth shattering consequence, but it IS one way to make at least some parts of earth a bit better and more enjoyable, eh? So, if you have a second and feel pity for video games and horror movie fans who've watched their favourite adventures butchered (just remember the last time you saw a movie based on a book you loved and the movie was so bad it pretty much ruined even the book for you,) then please take a second and go sign the petition. Let's send this guy into early retirement!
Well, there's a long way to go until 1 million signatures are gathered...but I added my signature & the total was up to 197,350 when I signed!
